StreamLine

Combining online real-time and non real-time learning into a single user friendly e-learning tool.

  • Season 01 Project  with 6 Supporters

Currently no tool exists that combines asynchronous (moodle) and synchronous (webinar) e-learning into one tool for educational institutions. Current webinar tools lack a good user experience and are difficult to use, setup and are not integrated into current learning management systems (LMS). This has caused many lecturers to not accommodate for the students who are not able to attend lectures physically.

StreamLine focuses on integrating a webinar tool with moodle, to present a single tool for students and lecturers to seamlessly use both modes of asynchronous and synchronous communication for e-learning.

Through our current research we are focusing on two open source products for StreamLine. BigBlueButton for the webinar tool and Moodle for the Learning Management System. Integrating these two and modifying to have the seamless experience is a feasible but complex task. We plan to overcome this issue by dividing the group into two teams to focus their knowledge and expertise on integration and enhancement of BigBlueButton.

StreamLine wishes to make a student’s life easier by allowing them to engange in the lecture when they cannot physically attend, this gives them an enhanced learning experience compared to watching a recorded lecture. Further it will allow remote students to engage in lectures or tutorials without being physically present. This will overall increase the attendance of the lecture (Virtual + Physical) and therefore increase the quality of students that are produced from the educational instituation.

Why you should support
StreamLine?

StreamLine hopes to benefit current and future generation of students in Australia and overseas. By having lectures, tutorials and classes which can be accessed physically and virtually, many students who could not attend now have the opportunity to engage in an interactive environment gaining that same learning experience as their peers.

By providing students and lecturers with a new enhanced tool, we plan to modernise the educational industry and help students around the world.

Which resources do you need for the project?

The money will primarily be used on funding server support for StreamLine. The servers are currently hosted on local machines for research and development purposes. Due to the high bandwidth and computational power required for these servers this is not feasible in the future.

Possibility of server solutions are:

– Google Cloud Platform

– Amazon AWS

– Microsoft Azure

Where will StreamLine
go in the future?

If the project is successful we see our product in all major univeristies and educational institutions across Australia and possibly in the overseas market. The money we gain will be spent on helping us grow as a start up, further enhancing the product, entering into different markets such as primary school and high school, adding different language support and additional features.

This product will not benefit me personally as I would have completed my degree at University by the time this degree has finished. But it will help to modernise the eductional industry and bring forward new methods of learning which can be used for current younger and future generations.

Technology has the ability to revolutionise how we learn and teach!
