Gingham & Green is a unique picnic concept, showcasing Canberra’s small business food scene.
Hi! I’m Aimee, founder of Gingham & Green. I am passionate about quality, delicious, local food and absolutely love picnics. There is no better way to spend a weekend than scouting markets and local speciality stores to create the perfect picnic you and someone special, or for a whole group of friends and family.
I founded Gingham & Green to bring my love of picnics, and Canberra, to visitors, tour groups and especially locals who might not have the time to explore all of the best our city has to offer. We have partnered with a number of Canberra businesses including Autolyse, Poachers Pantry and BurraBee Farm to create our gourmet, ready to eat picnics, that we delivered fresh to your home or hotel on the morning of your picnic.
We have just completed a number of ‘test run’ days to market test our product and refine our processes ahead of our official launch in Spring 2016. I am so happy to report that we sold out each time, well in advance of each test day. We received great feedback and even repeat business over the few test days we did. Since these test days we have had very high interest in the picnics and have even sold a number of gift vouchers ahead of our official launch. We have also received a great amount of media, being featured in Her Canberra website and printed magazine, The Canberra Times, Riot ACT and numerous blogs. We already have over 300 social media followers and a health email subscriber list. I am very excited for what is ahead for Gingham & Green.
From Spring 2016 our picnics will be available to book online for couples, groups and even events, but we will also be targeting the tourist market by approaching hotels to create ‘eat and stay’ packages that include accommodation and a Gingham & Green picnic delivered fresh to the hotel. We will also be partnering with local tour groups, such as winery tours.
Support for the Stir community would mean everything for Gingham & Green. The money would be used to cover the costs of renting a commercial kitchen, as well as marketing to ensure our official launch is a success.
Gingham & Green is all about Canberra. We use only local products wherever possible, so the best part about investing in me is that you are investing in so many local businesses. The more successful Gingham & Green is, the more I will purchase from local businesses and the more partners I can bring on board.
If I was successful in raising money via Stir it would be used to secure our shared commercial kitchen as well as marketing activities. I would love to eventually invest in a delivery van as well as my own kitchen. I see Gingham & Green as having great potential and I have so many ideas for it, beyond the initial picnic offering.
I would love to see Gingham & Green grow and incorporate a much wider range of local businesses. For example, eventually I would love to partner with businesses as such Mr Spokes bike hire, to create picnic and activity packages. Being able to offer packages for activities all over Canberra would be great for tourist and locals alike (hello, easy date solutions for your loved ones!). I also see this extending into other areas, like our partnership for Valentines day with Moxom and Whitney, which we included a single long stem red rose with our picnics. Just imagine if you could order a picnic, bike hire and a bouquet of flowers for your next anniversary, all in the same place.
