gcbrv (good canberra vibes)

Hand made, hand embroidered wearables out of Canberra.

  • Summer of Stir Project   with 29 Votes

gcbrv (shorthand for Good Canberra Vibes) is a clothing/ fashion label with the common medium of embroidery in each hand made item it produces. Run online and at occasional market stall pop ups, the idea behind gcbrv is to bring the local and handmade into successful mainstream.

Lovers of one off, handmade pieces they can simultaneously brag about to their friends and be supporting a local makers. gcbrv also fosters collaborations with other Canberra artists to build a stronger art scene and community.

Why you should support
gcbrv (good canberra vibes)?

This has been an ongoing project for me for the past 3 years and I have no intention of slowing down any time soon. I’ve learnt a lot along the way, grown, and have experienced opportunities and interactions I would not have otherwise. Running gcbrv encourages me to refine my skill and keep shooting for better as I continue creating.

What is the project’s current state?

gcbrv has been running and slowly growing since 2014. There is a strong vision and direction I wish to take the project from here forward. Recently starting to produce tote bags from scratch has been a big plus in getting as close to 100% handmade as possible. The collaborative process and release of items featuring local artist’s designs is an extremely rewarding experience for all parties involved.

Which resources do you need for the project?

Materials such as calico, thread, hoops, plain t shirts and hats are ongoing things needed to keep making what we do. We would like to expand to other of quality clothing items, vintage denim pieces, upcycling, etc. Clothing tags with the gcbrv logo on them, stickers and other promotional gear are also some delicious things on the menu. Market stall fees and public liability insurance too are in mind for reaching the audience of gcbrv.

Where will gcbrv (good canberra vibes)
go in the future?

Hopefully this year there will be more and more gcbrv to see. Popping up Aus wide in different cities for markets, maybe consignment in a Canberra shop front, and generally having a wider reach and accessibility to people. I am hoping that if I continue to work at the same rate, and even more, that I will find more opportunities and see more horizons for the project like I have since gcbrv begun.
