Makes the interests register of federal politicians – their gifts, shares, houses etc – searchable.
BURN THE REGISTER is a project that aims to fix the Interests Register of Australian Federal Parliamentarians. By crowd-sourcing the transcription of thousands of pages of handwritten PDFs, BURN THE REGISTER will make the interests register searchable.
BURN THE REGISTER has a growing community of 70 contributors that meet weekly – either in person or online – for sprints. Week by week we are transcribing the interests register to make it searchable, using the website www.burntheregister.com. Contributors are from all over Australia, and are journalists, public servants, consultants and retirees. The work is more than half complete, and a search functionality will be available midway through 2018.
Our elected representatives don’t make it easy to find out about their conflicts of interest. This project does.
More than halfway to our goal!
We will use the grant to have a big party when the project is complete!
This project will fix this problem until the parliament decides to digitise the interests register.
