I really wanted to show this new column because as you can see, this late in the game the tremendous effort of gathering 10 votes, unfortunately becomes a mere 10 votes that is not going to be move you up in the leaderboard. The amount of willpower and effort that it takes to get one vote is a feat, so let us not forget the hard work of all our project creators, and further admire the work and dedication it takes to get into the top 10 and remain there.

Speaking of, through consistent hard work the Top 4 have remained maintained their spots. As our Top 2 come closer to completing their 2nd Century, we have another champion join the century club!

CanDev is an exciting project I have been wanting to commentate on for a few episodes now. “CanDev is bringing together local game developers, along with anyone who wants to support them or get involved with the game development industry.” As a gamer I must disclose that I have been to events run by CanDev. And I want to subjectively and objectively tell you this is a project with awesome vision.

I say that because (just like Stir itself) this is a project that produces a ripple effect in the community. The bigger a splash it makes, the more momentum it carries to other projects it supports. If this is your kind of jam and you want to check out some of the games yourselves in person, I encourage you to join in on the next local event.

Getting back to the vote counts in spots 5 to 8, you can see CanDev (+38), Strait-Laced Media (+8), Trib Projects Gallery Refurb (+8), and Creative Beasts (+28) have done amazing work. This is by no mere coincidence. They all accepted opportunities to put themselves out on a bigger stage… read more of what I mean in this First Wednesday Connect blog post.

Another beautiful phenomenon happened over the last week. I mean to use beautiful in both the physical and metaphorical sense. Last year a project called Pretty Dangerous Science collaborated with others in the entrepreneurial space in Canberra to create a new program. “STEM Sells is a series of fun and engaging workshops dedicated to inspire young women into pursuing their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).”

Like CanDev, this project ignites other projects. In this case we have seen a handful of projects being started by high school students. Kids as young as 12 are contributing to projects on the platform. It’s beautiful to see the enthusiasm of the next generation to be brave enough to take these starting steps. Never too young or too old to start dreaming and do something about it.

As a result we have seen 8 new projects join the platform in the last week! This brings us to our “Fresh Feats” segment this week. The purpose of the segment is sharing and highlighting new projects. Our hope is that by seeing the diversity of new projects, someone in the audience also gets inspired to take those first steps. As always to keep it interesting we are going to mark each mystery link with a cryptic clue! Here is your chance to read up on a cool project you may not otherwise have come across!

Move over Cats, Foxes are arriving! Fresh Feat #01
Straight A’s in Culture and Music! Fresh Feat #02
Forever young! Fresh Feat #03

Next week join Votes Commentary again as we report results just a mere week away from the finale. This is Awais signing off, wishing you good luck and happy hustling.
