new (con)temporary art gallery that fits in a car boot
want to make it big in the art world?
…maybe make it small here first
BOOT SPACE is a local (con)temporary art platform that is open, adaptable, and moving to meet your needs
this model art gallery packs-down-flat to neatly fit into the boot of a car. a mobile site for experimentation and discussion, it offers an art delivery service in exhibition form
just like the real thing (but smaller), this platfrom is suitable for pilot shows, small sculpture, maquette installations, and relational art forms that can ‘happen’ around its limits
BOOT SPACE aims to offer a more accessible and portable platform for the exhibit and exchange of ideas
there are no alternative art spaces in Canberra (for many good reasons)
Boot Space enables artists to develop their ideas visually and spatially without the usual financial pressures and time lags
the space photographs well, so it will strengthen future applications for full size exhibitions
the platform will act as a pivot point for discussion and engagement within the arts community
it will build new social networks of support and critique
it will offer a challenging concept and space for artists to engage with
construct portable flat-pack gallery space
establish online web presence
develop visual media and brand
develop exhibition program
pay for petrol
Boot Space can be mobilised into any art context, at any time. So once the platform is established and the space is built it has the potential to be a bastion of the local scene.
I hope that it will encourage bidding young artists and curators to step up and test themselves – now – and become active in creating a community, before they think about moving somewhere else.
